Your care during pregnancy

When you are pregnant, it's important to let your GP or midwife know early - by 8 weeks from the start of your last period - even if this is not your first pregnancy.  This means your midwife can identify any concerns early on and can get you booked in for your scans at the right time.

At most GP practices, you can book to see the midwife directly but you might prefer to see your GP first.

Many women will have most of their care during pregnancy from a midwife at a GP clinic or other community venue like a Children's Centre.  If there are any concerns of complications, you may be asked to go to an antenatal clinic at the hospital - these are held at Pinderfields, Pontefract and Dewsbury hospitals so you can choose your nearest.
