Labour and Birth

This is the day you'the been waiting for!  Your child's birth day!

It's very natural to be worried about labour.  No one can predict what it will be like for you but you can really help yourself by being prepared.

Your midwife will let you know about antenatal classes in your area where you can find out more about labour and birth and she will also talk to you about your options.

You might want to think about where you would like to give birth - whether at home, in a midwife led unit or in hospital, about what kind of pain relief you might choose or what you definitely don't want and about how you want to manage your labour. Knowing what you want and feeling in control will help you during the birth.  Your birth partner can be a really important support if they know what you want and can make sure the nurses and doctors understand on the day.
