Healthy Start

Healthy Start is a scheme that provides you with free vouchers every week to spend on milk,  fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, and infant formula milk. You can also get free vitamins for mum and your baby.
If you are pregnant or have children under 4 years of age You may be eligible for the scheme. You could qualify if you are on benefits, or if you’re pregnant and under 18.

Applying for Healthy Start is easy you should receive a Healthy Start application form in your booking pack.  All you need to do is fill in the information required and ask your Midwife or Health Visitor to sign it.

If you have not received a application form ask your Midwife or Health Visitor for one, or you can download one from here.

Healthy Start use information from your tax credits and benefits claims to check you qualify so make sure all your details, including your address, are correct with job centre plus and tax credits.

Healthy Start Vitamins

You will receive a weekly voucher for milk, fresh fruit and vegetables and infant formula however you will also receive a vitamin voucher every 8 weeks.

Vitamins are essential nutrients that your body needs in small amounts so that it can work properly. Even though you can get a lot of the essential vitamins you need through a healthy balanced diet, you may not get everything you need at certain times of your life.

A time of your life you may not be getting the right vitamins from food could be pregnancy.  The UK Health Department recommends that you should take a supplement containing specific vitamins to make sure you get everything you need to help support a healthy pregnancy
Healthy start vitamins are suitable for vegetarians and are free from milk, egg , gluten and peanut residues
Pregnant women, women with a baby under one year old and children from 6 months to their fourth birthday on the Healthy Start scheme will be sent green  coupons to redeem for Healthy Start vitamins.
